LPL Street View: 3 Types of Lies

LPL Street View: 3 Types of Lies

| February 17, 2021

“There are three kinds of lies: lies, darn lies, and statistics.” Mark Twain

As Mark Twain famously said many years ago, statistics can be twisted and turned however you’d like, telling whatever story you want to tell. In the latest LPL Street View, LPL Financial Chief Market Strategist Ryan Detrick shows how this is still happening today.

Ryan explains that the results of the Super Bowl and the Year of the Ox are both historically quite bullish for equities. Of course, while there is no correlation at all between equity returns and these two events, they tell compelling stories and investors are drawn to a good story. Not to be outdone, Ryan also notes how Nicholas Cage movies are actually correlated with the number of people who fall and drown in a pool, while overall margarine consumption in the US is correlated with the divorce rate in Maine.

Please watch this fun Street View video below to learn what really matters for your investments. Also, please give it a like or follow our YouTube Channel, as those go a long way to getting our videos out to more people.
